Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his "cautious" satisfaction with the ceasefire decision on the Lebanese front, stressing at the same time his refusal to "direct negotiations" with Israel. He said that his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, during a call between them, on Thursday morning, said that the ceasefire was achieved according to a comprehensive formula that included Iran.
Berri said, in a call with Asharq Al-Awsat shortly after the announcement was issued, that this agreement is for ten days initially, stressing that he will not issue a call for the people of the south to return to their villages and homes, before ensuring that the appropriate conditions have matured, especially since the announcement does not include an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory at this stage.
While Berri approached the ceasefire with caution, in light of “Israeli intentions,” he said that what is important now is that the file has been moved, and the ceasefire is a step in the right direction. He confirmed that he is not at all afraid after the ceasefire regarding the internal situation, which is becoming more and more deteriorating.
